2009 E-learning Innovations projects - Western Australia

In 2009, 15 projects have been awarded a total of $566,300 to deliver innovative e-learning solutions in Western Australia. The successful projects are tailored to Western Australian vocational education and training (VET) priorities.

This project will provide an e-learning management system for units in the Health and Community Services training packages, using a variety of e-tools including Elluminate, ARED, Movie Maker, Moodle, CD, and video/DVD.

E-small business solutions

This project will research the training needs of small businesses in the Goldfields-Esperance region. It will identify training delivery methods suitable for small businesses, and develop flexible and interactive learning programs to address their specific training needs.

The Certificate IV in Small Business will be delivered through blended and wholly online programs.

The project will include a mentoring component.

This project will support flexible web-based delivery of Certificates I to III in Business and Retail for workplace trainees in the south-western region of WA. e-portfolio landscape

This project will use e-portfolios to assist with the RPL (recognition of prior learning) process, to overcome the problem of distance facing Indigenous learners in remote WA. The project aims to deliver a mechanism for remote learners to achieve a qualification, by recognising their prior achievements and experience.

e-learning RPL assessment pathway for the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques.  The pathway will be implemented to support laboratory assistants and technicians from all regional areas.

3D Modelling

Development and testing of a 3D Training Model of a Separator Pressure Vessel of a Process Train at ACEPT using Adobe PDF. The testing will provide empirically based data for decision making on future investment in 3D modelling for similar applications.

This project will develop core units from the Certificate III in Education Support, providing resources to create an online learning strategy. This project aims to empower and provide training for a skills shortage industry group, as well as accommodating learners who concurrently work and study.

This project will trial a new technology called EDUPOV, which sits within the WebCT learning platform. It will also implement a relatively new technology known as camera glasses. The focus of this project will be metropolitan and regional learners enrolled in the Certificate III in Fitness.

This project aims to embed a new pedagogy of delivery and assessment into the SWRC. This will facilitate the delivery of meaningful WPDA (Workplace Delivery and Assessment) to existing learners using innovative e-learning practices. Virtual classroom platforms such as Elluminate will be embedded as a real alternative to traditional face-to-face delivery.
