New Practices in Flexible Learning 2006
The New Practices in Flexible Learning Project aims to explore and increase the uptake of innovative, practical and sustainable approaches to e-learning in workplaces, communities and training organisations. It also aims to reset the benchmarks for VET e-learning practices.
Three 'new practices' were investigated during 2006 through the following projects.

New Practices 2006 objectives
Part A: Development of new practices
In 2006 the Project is working to increase the application of innovation development and embedding principles by:
- funding cutting edge projects in RTOs, enabling the national development and dissemination of innovative practices
- targeting innovative project areas, as identified through the interoperability report recommendations and other identified national priorities
- assisting the national embedding of innovation into VTE practices by supporting and implementing, where appropriate and within the parameters of New Practices in Flexible Learning, the Embedding Innovative Practices within Vocational Education and Training project research findings and recommendations
- applying innovation principles and solutions across the Framework by collaboration and partnering with other Framework Projects in line with individual Project-identified priorities. This will enable VTE practitioners to be aware of, practice and reapply innovative concepts into new situations, thus leveraging across Projects to build capacity and assisting the embedding of innovative practices
- ensuring Project outputs continue to incorporate new standards and protocols where appropriate.
Part B: Embedding innovative practices
The 2006 New Practices in Flexible Learning Project also aims to build on and embed the Framework's past achievements and increase uptake of e-learning in target areas through:
- development of professional learning and support resources by a set of past New Practices in Flexible Learning Project teams to create a range of learning options; these professional development opportunities will enable practitioners to gain skills necessary for implementing the new practice within their organisation
- upskilling Toolbox Champions to expand their knowledge of the application of new practices and innovation solutions and to better promote and facilitate the uptake of innovative e-learning practices
- provide information and where appropriate, resources, to support State/Territory Framework Coordinators, and other Framework advocates in promoting New Practices in Flexible Learning.
The Project contributes to the longer term sustainability of e-learning by continuing to develop innovative practices that
provide the foundational requirements necessary to: drive the sector forward on an innovation level; meet industry, community
and student needs with new solutions; and provide vital opportunities for embedding innovation within VTE practice at a practitioner
and provider level.
