Inclusive E-learning
2007 Inclusive e-Learning N...
You are invited to take part in the showcasing of Inclusive e-Learning projects from around Australia in a day of learning about inclusive technologies in Vocational Education and Training (VET).
Showcase Objective
The Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework) is the national training system's e-learning strategy. The aim of the Framework's Inclusive e-Learning Project is to increase the uptake of e-learning and efficient delivery strategy for increasing Vocational Education and Training (VET) participation by under-represented and priority learner groups, including youth at risk, learners with a disability and mature age workers.
The Inclusive e-Learning Showcase will bring together those interested in online delivery and support of disadvantaged learner groups with leaders in innovation and research. The event provides the opportunity to sample real examples from across Australia showing how e-learning - and in particular mobile-learning - can be embedded to give equity, access and improved employment outcomes to these educationally disadvantaged groups.
Keynote Presenters
Michael Coghlan
Tools for Engagement
"Any networking tools is only as good as your network" (Graham Wegner)The catch-cry in education these days is "you have to engage your learners". The assumption is that if you use the internet or mobile devices you will automatically capture the imaginations of these who are otherwise disengaged. We forget that engagement itself is not the goal, rather "engagement for what?" is the critical question. This presentation will provide a practical focus on how web-based technologies enable communication across time and space, drawing in disengaged learners and provide connections that enrich people's learning experience.
Michael Coghlan works as an online facilitator of TAFE SA, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework and has been taching online since 1996. Michael's interests are webcasting, the use of web-based voice technologies, social software, networked learning and the impact of the internet on education and society. He is a founding member of the webheads community.
Dr Kaye Bowman
Inclusive practice in VET - Success factors and strategies
Kaye will present key messages from the growing evidence base, propose a set of critical success factors for inclusive practice
in VET and "bring these to life" through citing good practice examples. Where e-learning strategies fit in will
also be discussed.
Kaye's career has been in regional development and adult VET and how the two intertwine to building communities. She has worked
in several senior positions with Government agencies before becoming a consultant in July 2006.
More recently Kaye has undertaken:
- strategic review of the Framework's Community Engagement Program
- study of e-learning for the mature age with Peter Kearns from Global Learning Services, for the Framework's Research and Policy Advice Project
- coordinated and edited a book titles Equity in VET (2004)
- supervised a statistical analysis of people with a disability in VET
