Welcome to the Indigenous Engagement Project information page- an initiative of the national training systems e-learning strategy, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework.
Since 2006, this project has worked to contribute and improve employment futures for Indigenous people by helping to advance their skills through e-learning. The key focus of this project is to strengthen communities' economic growth, identify areas of skills gaps and build on existing skills and knowledge and the development of culturally appropriate products to enhance and support learning outcomes.
Showcase Success- 2007
The 2007 End of Year Forum- Working Towards Better Practice was held on 27 November at the Mercure Hotel, Brisbane. The Forum provided a great opportunity to see real examples of how technology is being used to engage Indigenous people in education and training across Australia. 2007 Project Announcement
Six projects have been selected to be funded in 2007. The selected projects have identified a range of models that can be replicated into Indigenous communities across Australia - supporting economic and regional development. This year there will be a strong emphasis on expanding our networks and building on the achievements of previous Indigenous Engagement Projects and their e-learning tools.
Project teams are as follows:
TAFE NSW - Improving Indigenous E-Governance
TAFE NSW Western Institute
In 2006 the Certificate IV in Business (Governance) was delivered into very remote communities using a combination of satellite, video conference and online technologies. The aim for 2007 is to extend this delivery model and gain sustainability through flexible training methods.
Indigenous ICT: I Can To!
Job Train WA
This project aims to engage, train and mentor local Indigenous Liaisons and Champions who will work with the Registered Training Organisation (RTO), the local Telecentre, and Indigenous community to assist them through the e-learning processes.
Cultural Studies with E-Learning
Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE
This project will capitalise on the ability of e-learning technology to expand educational opportunities in the area of land and conservation management for the Indigenous communities across Gippsland, which are currently experiencing a skills shortage of workers.
Working From Our Strengths
Kimberley College of TAFE
This project will build on the work of Indigenous enterprise operators across northern Australia to develop effective strategies to ensure relevant quality training and qualifications are implemented.
Making It Real
Tropical North Institute of TAFE
This project was selected by the New Practices in Flexible Learning project team, and aims to engage and embed e-learning as a viable and sustainable option for the delivery of literacy and numeracy training in remote Indigenous communities.
One Mob Together
Sunshine Coast TAFE
This project will develop and pilot an e-tool for RPL for Indigenous community organisation members wanting to acquire their Certificate IV in Business (Governance).
